1. What does it take to take a great studio photo?

Taking great studio photos relies on lighting and great composition, not to mention having the right equipment and the correct camera settings. You’ll need just the right backdrop, wear the right outfit, and establish the right connection between you and your photographer.

2. Is it better to shoot in a studio or on location?

Choosing to shoot in a studio or on location depends on your objectives and your circumstances. A studio shoot is more likely to result in a more polished and professional look, while a location shoot is more likely to look more relevant or authentic. Certain subjects such as newborns or the elderly might also do better in the controlled environment of the studio. Other factors you’d do well to consider include your timeline, your budget, the weather, and transportation.

3. Is it okay to ask the photographer to retouch my photos?

Some photography studios do include editing and retouching of selected photos by default, as in the case of bug bites on a child. Many studios do have a strict retouching policy, however, such as not allowing further edits on photos that have already been edited, or editing photos to alter your body type. Be sure to discuss this policy with your photographer before your shoot.
